Remember Relationships Do Matter.
12 Things my true love said to me ……1 of 12 – Sabine Adeyinka.
Honestly, I have discovered that the call to serve Christ is straightforward and free (not cheap). Once one accepts it, one arrives at THE destination. That destination is Christ! He is our way. There is no additional offering required for the more serious sins you may have committed. What is really needed and available is power from the Holy Spirit to live the simplicity of the gospel, which is to sit at the feet of Christ and learn from him.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11.29
God does not require drama and theatrics for us to receive the full blessing of his salvation but sometimes I subconsciously chase outlandish dreams and breakthroughs so that I can avoid the simplicity of obedience. I ignore the gentle prompting of the Spirit to address more achievable goals such as patience or talking less. I ignore it because if I listen to this prompting, I will have to confess and repent thoroughly of my weaknesses.
One day I decided to calm down, this is what I learnt:
12 beautiful doable things
1. Sleep Early
The first night, I slept at 10pm, I woke up the next morning totally refreshed. I leaped out of bed and was ready for spending time with God. Then I realized why it was the first thing God said to me.
A rested mind, body and soul will spend time with God willingly.
The next few nights, I had to force myself to go to bed early. I was hooked to my PC and when I got into bed, I couldn’t wind down my mind for a few hours. I realized something else:
If I want to sleep at 10pm, I need to wind down at least an hour before
I need to retrain my body to sleep. To do this I must:
Go to bed the same time each night and have at least 8 hours of sleep even if I have to wake up in the middle of the night for different reasons, I must immediately go back to bed.
What makes it hard to go to bed early?
The reasons range from being busy, spending time with a spouse to watching television. Sometimes sleeping early makes people feel that life is just about working and sleeping i.e. no time to do just nothing.
However, the deeper truth is that sleeping early means you wake up early and have enough energy to live life more efficiently so that you do more with fewer resources.
The spouse thing
Most women say that they have to spend quality time with their husbands and this means late nights. Not true really. Men love conversation but they also want a bit more. However they are not fussed about what time they get that bit more. The only thing that matters is that you initiate it enough times to make them feel desired. Guess what? Sleeping early makes you more available in this department.
Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man or woman healthy, wealthy and wise.
