“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
This issue of Trayvon Martin won’t disappear by avoiding it, because it touches the very fabric and nerve of our society. This pain is too raw, the tears too real and won’t be ignored until justice is served. Please do not equate this to a race issue, well actually please do because it is more than that it is a human race issue.
33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
We also can’t forget the words of Dr King who said “Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.”
Honestly, we can’t afford to look away when the open questions outweigh the answers. We can’t afford to look away when an unarmed young boy is killed based on perceptions. We just can’t look…away!
Synopsis: About a month ago, 17-year old Trayvon Martin was gunned down by the neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman.
If you listen to the released 911 tapes (click here), something doesn’t add up but this much is true, a young unarmed black man is dead.
Reactions are swift, varied and diverse. For some it’s safe to observe from afar, others are moving closer to casually observe and interject and yet some are scarred by it and are vocal. Whatever, one does we must not forget that Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, a popular quote by Dr King.
In the matters of life and relationships we must not forget that our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
However, let me ask you to temper your anger and frustration with wisdom because no matter what our anger and rage is limiting and limited. Recall James 1:20, that declares, ‘Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.’ So what then ?
Let me enjoin you regardless of what you do (rally, protest, petitions, tweet etc), please make sure you do this too: PRAY, PRAY TOGETHER and PRAY CONTINUALLY!
- Pray for the Martin’s family and those families who have suffered similar avoidable fate.
- Pray the leaders (city officials, legal etc) will act judiciously and wisely to handle the frustration and injustice.
- Pray for the Justice department and the appropriate parties to get involved as required by law.
- Pray that everything associated with this case will not become exacerbated.
- Pray for this great country, USA to stand strong and not waiver under the strain of racial discrimination.
- Pray for reconciliation, healing, tolerance, peace and understanding.
- Pray that all will be well with all the pent up anger for we know that man’s rage does not perform the righteousness of God (James 1:20)
…and after you do, please ask your friends and family to please do the same.
Don’t worry JUSTICE will be served, don’t lose your hope and faith.
